“AHHHH NO NO NO NOT THE CHAIRS” (Us, the cat owners, 2024)
Our bois have reached it, the all infamous teenager phase…And they’ve starting scratching our nice comfy chairs…Just kidding, it’s not the teenager phase. But in all seriousness we’ve noticed our bois have gotten into a liking to scratching our chairs, maybe it’s the texture (ok it’s definitely the texture), but most importantly, we think it’s the big streeeeeeeeettttcchhh that they get with it. We had to put an end to it, or at least minimize it.
We had a previous inspiration for cat scratching posts, mainly because our cat tower just doesn’t have that sisal rope sitting at good scratching heights. The 3 criteria we had were: height, sturdiness and absolutely no plushy or fluffy coverings, we’ve got enough snowflake generators in our house already…(Sorry vacuum). With that in mind we stumbled upon the Aussie Furbaby Cat scratching post.
Delivery Time: Came in a few days, pretty speedy if you ask me.
Price: We got ours off Amazon for 90 AUD, yeahhhh I know there are some cat towers out there with probably 2/3 of the price, but considering the material and sort of timeless appearance, I think it’s worth (yes that’s how I justify things myself…)
Handling: The box sure packs a punch, it may look small but a bit hefty, so be careful when lifting it.
Build Instructions/Experience: I mean, it’s legitimately 4 screws, can’t get much easier than that! All the screw holes were dug out properly, so no troubles here.
Overall Quality: I’m a sucker for nice wood stuff (and that wood to white sisal rope appearance *chefs kiss*). The sisal rope mesh is AMAZING, so durable. Our bois have been scratching it for a few months now and I don’t even notice much parts coming off. The site does boast a non-tippable base, maybe it’s our chonky bois all attacking it on one side, but 10 minutes into making it…it… tipped? Granted this was one off and it has never happened again, so I don’t know, maybe they went for a flying scratch or something.
Feline Fun: I REALLLLYY wish they had a taller one, ideally 1 meter to be honest. Don’t get me wrong, 81cm is great, but our lanky bois can’t get that maximum BIGG STRETTTCHHH I was hoping for. Probably should have measured their maximum stretch height…oh well…it still does its job, we’re very happy the bois enjoy scratching it, there’s just something different about sisal ropes!
Conclusions: Has this cat scratching post saved our chairs? Not exactly, they still go for it…Has it helped? Absolutely. We try to do some positive association with the scratching post and treats, but maybe it’s just that lack of a full stretch that still encourages our bois to the chair. Either way, with its timeless appearance and durability, there’s no way the Aussie Furbaby Scratching Post is going out of this house anytime soon (And yes, I am an absolute sucker for the color scheme used).
